Easter in Riverwoods
The woodland floor was strewn with colorful eggs and the sounds of hewhaws, oinks, quacks and laughter filled the air. This was Easter Sunday in Riverwoods.
The children arrived in their Easter attire carrying empty baskets that they hoped to soon fill. Patch 22 (the same folks who bring out the big horses and wagon for our annual Halloween hootnanny hay ride) had set up a version of a farmyard which held a donkey, several goats, a pig, lambs, and some very adorable new born baby ducklings and bunnies, all eager for attention. Each child , but the baby bunnies were the most held of all.
Prior to the hunt, volunteers came together at the temporary village hall and stuffed 1000+ plastic eggs with goodies of candy, coins, tatoos and small toys.
More than 100 children came to the Village Hall to join in the festivities. There were several start times for egg hunts and buckets were filled. Afterwards children found a spot to settle in and discover the contents of each egg.
These Village events, the Easter egg hunt, the annual Halloween party, village barbecues and such, all happen because of volunteers.
