Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods

May/June 2017

Located in the Ryerson family historic home among pristine woodlands, Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods promotes the importance of nature for nurturing personal and community well-being, cultivating creativity, and inspiring learning. In so doing, we honor the legacy of those who came before us on this land and champion a region where people will care about and for nature.

Opening Reception Sunday, June 11, 1-3pm
Environmental Graphiti
Explore the Art. Learn the Science. Inquire.

Environmental Graphiti™ is a non-profit venture created by artist Alisa Singer to use contemporary ART as a vehicle to encourage widespread understanding of the compelling SCIENCE of climate change. The ART consists of digital paintings, each using as its “canvas” a graph, chart, number or word related to a key indicator of climate change. Watch the process by which SCIENCE becomes art to dramatize the compelling facts about what is happening to our world. Free. No registration required. Exhibition runs June 11 – July 31, 2017

Sunday, June 25, 1:30pm
Field Lecture: Why Urban Nature Matters with Abigail Derby Lewis

This Field Lecture series is designed to inform Northern Illinois residents on the brilliant research underway at The Field Museum - without the long drive to Chicago. This partnership gives The Field a chance to reach their northern neighbors while allowing Brushwood Center a chance to further the conversation on important environmental and cultural issues that impact our region and world.. Register at BrushwoodCenter.org or call 224.633.2424.

April 23 – June 5, 2017
Art Exhibition: Endangered Beauty

Photographer Carol Freeman is on a mission to photograph all 483 threatened and endangered Illinois species in hopes of inspiring their preservation. Her work has featured in Chicago Wilderness Magazine, Outdoor Illinois Magazine and was filmed for Chicago’s Very Own on WGN. Free.
